Dr. J.S.N. Murthy obtained his Bachelor’s  degree in Chemical Engineering from Regional Engineering College (presently N.I.T.), Rourkela (Orissa), M.E from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and Ph.D. form IIT, Madras. He has published about 50 papers in National & International journals and presented about 25 papers in national & International conferences. He has been awarded A.P. Scientist Award by APCOST (Andhra Pradesh Council of Science & Technology) in 2002. He has been awarded Five Gold Medals by Institution of Engineering (I) for the best papers published in the Journal of institution of engineers (I) of Chemical engineering division. He has also been awarded Merit Certificate by Institution of Engineers (I) for a paper published in the Journal of Institution of Engineers of Chemical Engineering division. He has also obtained Kuloor Memorial award for the best paper published in Indian Chemical Engineer. He has also been awarded best aluminous award for the year 1971 by Regional Engineering College. Rourkela. He has 35 year of experience in teaching and research. He had worked as Assistant Professor at Regional Engineering College (Presently NIT), Rourkela for 12 years (from 1975 to 1987) and as Reader & Professor at University College of Technology, Osmania University for 23 years (from 1987 to 2010). He has also worked as Chairman, Board of Studies in Technology and Dean, Faculty of Technology in Osmaina University. He is also a member of professional bodies like Institution of Engineers (I), Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers and also Indian Society for Technical Education.

He has visited USA, Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa, Hong Kong and Australia for presentation of papers in conferences and academic interaction. He is reviewer for international journals Powder Technology, Asia Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering and National Journals Indian Chemical Engineer & Journal of Institution of Engineers (I). He was also a reviewer for papers submitted for international symposia. He was also Chairman of technical sessions at national & international conferences.

He has guided 20 M.Tech theses and a few students are pursuing Ph.D.under his guidance. He has been a resource person for the past 10 years to teach the Engineering Graduates recruited by BARC, at the training school located at NFC Hyderabad. He had delivered invited lectures at different National Institutions & Universities. He had completed a UGC sponsored project 'Solid-Solid Reactions in Fluidized Beds'.

He was also a Board member for Chemical Engineering branch at Andhra University, JNTU, Ananthpur and JNTU, Hyderabad. His areas of research interest include Transfer Operations, Fluidization, Soli-Solid Reactions, Process Dynamics and Rheology of Polymers.
